Nashid Furaha Ali
Black History Through Stories Instructor

Nashid Ali, a Philadelphia native, boasts a rich educational background and a lifetime dedicated to community engagement and storytelling. With a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Wilberforce University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), and a Master’s degree in Sociology from Northwestern University, Nashid’s academic journey has equipped him with a deep understanding of social dynamics and cultural heritage.
Mr. Ali’s passion for storytelling and preserving black culture began over four decades ago when he joined Keepers of The Culture and the National Association of Black Storytelling. Drawing upon over 70 years of real-life observation and experience, he masterfully crafts narratives that resonate with authenticity and depth.
As a community organizer, Nashid has been actively involved in various programs aimed at supporting the formerly incarcerated and victims of gun violence through initiatives such as Drop Squad. Through his involvement, he strives to uplift and empower marginalized communities, embodying the ethos of social justice and solidarity.
Listeners can tune in to Nashid Ali’s compelling stories every Sunday at 6pm on the radio show Groundings with Brother Shomari, broadcasted on WURD radio. Notably, WURD radio stands out as one of the few black-owned radio stations in the country, providing a vital platform for amplifying diverse voices and narratives within the community.
